Judging the All-Star lineups is one of my favorite things to do, just to see how badly my stat disagrees with the voting public. Sometimes the voters may be right, maybe my stat doesn't capture a certain aspect of a player's game. Other times it's just ridiculous how wrong the public is (see: Kobe, last year). Anyways, lets get on to judging the starting lineups. Did they deserve it? If not, how egregious is their selection?
LeBron James: Probably the best player in the world, or at least one of them, but he is having an off season. Still, he ranks 1st among bigs in the East, so he definitely deserves it.
Carmelo Anthony: Like James he is having an off year, unlike James he definitely doesn't deserve it (by PAA he ranks 73rd overall). Kind of like the Kobe selection last year where he just has a ton of fans. Still... he definitely has a ton of skill (top five in PAA last year) and the East sucks so its not AS bad the Kobe selection... final egregiousness: 7/10
Pau Gasol: Wow, the East is awful. He ranks 20th by PAA and yet is the 2nd best big man in the East, trailing only LeBron. He deserves it.
John Wall: Easily deserves it. #1 guard in the East, and 6th best overall.
Kyle Lowry: He's been great, but doesn't deserve it by PAA. He's close - the third best guard in the East - but PAA prefers Kyle Korver over him (barely). Egregiousness: 1/10
West:
Blake Griffin: I can see why he got elected (massive fan support) but by PAA he doesn't deserve. Sure, he's been good, 19th overall (kinda weird how the 19th ranked player doesn't deserve it in the West, but the 20th absolutely does in the East, huh?) but there are five players PAA would have picked above him. Still... the West is stacked. Egregiousness: 2/10.
Marc Gasol: Same exact situation as Blake. He's been good (16th overall) but there are four big min ranked higher than him. Egregiousness: 2/10
Anthony Davis: He, on the other hand, deserves it. MVP candidate by PAA (5th overall) and #1 big man in West. Easy decision.
Stephen Curry: Again, easy decision. #1 player by PAA - he's in.
Kobe Bryant: Are you f$%(*$g kidding me?!?!?!? Again?!?! He's been better - amazing compared to last year - at 50th overall by PAA, but the West has so many incredible guards. James Harden and Chris Paul rank 2nd and 3rd by PAA, and they're not in. Here's every other guard above Kobe: just kidding I realized that was way to long of a list. Do people realize the West has nasty guards? Oh well. Egregiousness: 9/10.
Tune in after the rest of the All Stars are announced so I can make fun of more bad decisions being made.
