The NBA season is underway, and new players have emerged as leaders and begun to shine. Today I will look at a few of those players, namely those who have emerged, or at least vastly improved upon, on offense. To measure this improvement, I calculated the difference between the PAA they add for close shots, drives, pull ups (2s and 3s), and catch-and-shoot shots (2s and 3s).
Using this method to see who had improved their shooting this most, I then created a radar graph of their PAA last year vs their PAA this year. Note that for the graph I transformed their PAA by constants in order to make the graphs more visually appealing. Anyways, if you have any questions about my process, let me know in the comments or on twitter @aabsblog.
Here are the top six most improved scorers:
#6. Luol Deng
#5. A.J. Price
#4. Kelly Olynyk
#3. Gordon Hayward
#2. Kevin Martin
#1. Derrick Rose
I won't talk anymore, because, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. So here's five thousand words.
